Pasha panted heavily as he slowed to a stop near the lake shore. He had been following a river that fed into the lake for some time and figured that it was best to stop with the river, at least for a while. Though he wanted nothing more than to drop where he stood the golden sable male first made himself approach the bank and take a long drink. The cool water tasted sweet and the cool streams that ran down his muzzle brought him a moment of indescribable joy.
After a moment the male retreated into the cool grass beneath a tree. He still panted furiously, trying and failing to really cool himself. Drops of saliva and water fell upon his outstretched forelegs. These offered a bit of coolness as the water evaporated in the midday heat. The big Russian brute was not use to the heat and sun in the area. He missed the snow of his homeland even though it had been ages since he had seen it. Damn his thick coat, it did nothing for him here save make traveling miserable.
Pasha quickly gave up on hoping that a short rest in the shade would cool him. With a happy sigh he flopped onto his side and shut his eyes. His pink tongue hung from his mouth into the dirt but he paid it no mind. His panting slowed a bit as he drifted into a half sleep. Perhaps, he though, a short afternoon nap would do him some good. At the very least it would allow the world to cool ever so slightly.
Many would have checked to see if they were trespassing but the tawny male no longer cared. He had learned that his size brought along certain advantages such as other leaving him alone out of fear of a fight. Plus, how many could be found on this island. The swim there had been hard; surely few would dare to make it. Besides there was really only one that Pasha feared, his blood crazed brother, Yuri. The brute figured as long as he could avoid his brother then he was doing well in life.
