It had been a hot day, but a quiet one. She was used to the silence by this time; used to the solitude. It was a good number of dawns ago when her mother left her to find her way back to the pack she came from. Ruppa was not to follow, she commanded. Ruppa must hunt for herself, Snafu, and stay hidden from other wolves until her muscles filled out better. Then, she would be able to protect herself. Then, she would not have to run at the slightest whiff of a fellow canine. But why can't she come too, Mama? Why must she hide? "You must hide because you are too small to be taken seriously and will be killed at the first opportunity. Would you really like to become another's snack? All others will kill you. If you trail me, I will kill you myself. Stay, and not once ever speak of me to another." And then she was gone... Her sharp words and harsh threats still haunted Ruppa. Sometimes she'd spend half the daytime just replaying the scene in her mind. Maybe she missed something. Maybe there was a clue about where her mother was going. Did she say Ruppa was not to follow her ever, or could she seek her out one day? Had she even known her mothers name? Had she ever called Ruppa by any other name? So many questions, but no matter how many hours she wasted rummaging through her memory, she never got further, never found answers. One day, she might find her mother and pack, but today she needed to hunt.
Evening was approaching quickly, soon it would be dark and then the hunting would start. Perhaps she'd be able to sniff out a rabbit hole or fox den. Probably not, she could rarely catch a decent meal. Most evenings it would be only the rodents that skittered through the tall grasses of the fields. She'd have to lay real still, and just sit there and wait. No doubt most knew to avoid a wolf's scent, but she managed to catch enough bold and foolish ones to feed her thus far. If luck betrayed her tonight, then she supposed she could search out the berry bushes within the nearby woods. They weren't preferable by far, but it was still something for her belly. She didn't feel comfortable hunting in those areas though; mother told her most wolves stayed in the woods so therefore she must avoid those areas as best she could or be killed. Ruppa had run away from faint scents a number of times, but every time she did she wondered more and more about the logic of it. She would not live forever hiding from the world, eventually she would be found. For all she knew, she would be found tonight, and then what? Well, she'd be murdered, of course, mother said so. Goodness me, wasting time in my thoughts again.
|
Do other wolves spend so much of their day within their mind as she did? Was she strange and unacceptable? Or perhaps they ponder more so, and then were she stupid? She peeked an eye open a slit before she could follow those thoughts further. Yes, it would be night very soon, the skies were just losing their pink tint from the setting sun and the air losing its warmth. The tall grasses surrounding her favorite rock perch were still and silent; no wind. That was good, perhaps the prey would not scent her before she could capture it. Mother berated her over and over again not to remain in one spot, but there was just something about this silly boulder. When she lay here, her eyes could see the changing skies; when she crouched she could just see over the tops of the weeds. She never sat up, though. She could not afford to be seen in the middle of the clearing. This was as close to "home" as she was going to find, she supposed. It would do well enough. So long as she was never found. Well, enough of that. Might as well get an early start on the hunt before the night-sleepers went into their damned hiding places. She hopped lazily off her station, arching her back in a half-hearted stretch with a yawn. Not caring to be quiet yet, she clumsily strode a fair distance from her area before she positioned her nose lower in the air for scents, and proceeded with cautious silence.[/blockquote]

A long time had passed since she had left the company of her old friend Flint, and so, as per usual, the femora now found herself craving more companionship. She dind't do well on her own, and the term 'lone wolf' really wasn't something she enjoyed being labelled as. Flint had acted strange though- as though one minute he had enjoyed being there alongside her, yet the next, he'd wanted nothing more than to get the hell away. The Brute had been completely different from what she'd remembered their first time meeting, over on that god damned Island. And she could not for the life of her figure out why. And now, she was lonely again.
So, as one could imagine, the young fae was overjoyed when she first caught scent of another wolf nearby. Without completely thinking over the consquences, Akila bounded towards the source of the scent, her paws meeting the soft grass lightly as she raced through the fields. She had never been here before, therefor the new sights and smells overthrew her curiosity to the maximum. It was a beautiful place, and even though darkness was beginning to fall, the late flowers and reddening leaves could still be seen. She wished Flint was here to see this.
Finally, Akila spotted what she thought to be the strange wolf. The scents in the air confirmed her suspicians, and she slowed her pace to a causal walk towards it. This was a femme, it seemed, with strange, honey coloured fur. that came as quite a relief to Akila; for she did not fancy bumping into males at the moment, especially given the current season. So, with a cautious tone, she called out happily "Hellooo?"
Muse: Ergh, its too early aha. Song: Mad world- the glee project

She hadn't been hunting very long before she was able to scent out a fox den somewhere nearby. Her keen nose could just almost find the trail the critter would take to get to it's home, but the exact place kept eluding her. Ruppa, frustrated to the point of giving up by now, gave a low growl of her displeasure. Clever little mongrels.. Oh well, she supposed she could manage a few rodents if she had to, and the hare werent all that difficult in the early mornings. So, she would change direction then, maybe make a couple more attempts before she try to rest for the night, and hopefully feel like getting up early. Hah. Who on earth would want to get up early?? Well... she'd at least give it a thought. Maybe.
She lay her nose near the ground for one last effort at finding the fox den hidden nearby, but a rustling noise nearby distracted her. Further puzzling, it stopped very shortly after she had even given it notice. "Hellooo?" Ruppa froze instantly. She did not even look towards the voice, did not turn an ear in that direction; the only sense she used to identify the distraction was by scent. The female that spoke was a wolf, but friend or foe? Were there even such a thing as either or were they all enemies? Mother wasnt an enemy, persay, but she did say she'd kill her if she saw her again. Or something similar anyways, the exact memory was fading and soon only the intentions behind it would remain.
Well, she was finally found and she couldnt decide if it were a good thing or not. Too late to run, she had been too focused on other things to notice the approach of the stranger, and she was a bit lonely these days besides. Her only choice now was to fight if it came to it. With caution weighing on her heart, she broke out of the instinctive wolf-stance, and faced the female. She kept her head a bit lowered so as not to appear hostile and look closer to submission, and tried for what she thought was a friendly greeting. "Hi." She knew her social skills were quite lacking, being raised mostly alone and far from pack-life, but she couldnt for the life of her think of what was proper to say next. She'd leave that up to her..guest, she supposed. She didnt even have a clue what was expected of her, or if she even wanted anything from Ruppa. So, she waited neutrally.

As soon as she had spoken, Akila felt the tension in the air rocket by millions, and the fields suddenly went incredibly quiet. It was as though her words had triggered some sort of charm, causing every living thing that inhabited the area to just stand deadly still, and not make a single sound. This made Akila feel rather nervous of her surroundings all of a sudden, and she padded forward uneasily towards whomever it was that had joined her company.
'Hi.'
The reply was short, and Akila stretched her head towards the skies curiously, trying to get a better look at the femora. She was slight sized wolf, with an intriguing range of colours possessing her pelt. Colours Akila was not used to seeing in others- most likely because she had grown so accustomed to being around the dark fur of Flint. Still, she was not put off by the strange colours, nor the short greeting, Akila was far too eager to make friends to let those things scare her away, and make friends she would. With her tail wagging furiously, the snowy femme took several more steps towards her new 'friend', tilting her head slightly. "What are you doing?" She asked, not realising that some may see her curious nature as just plain nosy.
ooc: My muse for her at the moment is ridiculouly low, sorry for the bad posts.

Ruppa watched the other female carefully, her loner-instincts wary of any who approached her. She'd been chased out of lands before, that was fine, but she didnt plan on her death coming to her because of it. Although, this wintery wolf didn't seem threatening, so maybe she wouldn't have to fight or run for once in such a long time. Ruppa's head and tail were still lowered submissively, not wanting anything to turn into a dominance battle; those were bad. She'd ran from her fair share of them, so she should know, right? Being submissive wasn't exactly her comfort zone, but for her life she supposed she could deal with it for now. She heard the other speak just then, "What are you doing?"
The question alone, would've been taken as "what are you doing in my lands" to Ruppa, if the other female hadn't of had so much body language with it. Ruppa wasn't accustomed to body language really, not being around it much and all, but her lack of social skills had no trouble recognizing someone genuinely curious, nonaggressive. It was unexpected, naturally, so for a moment Ruppa just tilted her head slightly, as if looking from a different angle would change the image. Well, this was good news then, a friendly wolf! She'd never had a friend before, maybe she could have one now? She raised her small head just a little, intrigued and curious.
It was almost as if the playfulness of the white's body language was contagious, Ruppa felt like relaxing completely and just touselling with this stranger. How fun to play rough! But dangerous with someone unfamiliar. Still, Ruppa couldn't help but sway her tail gently, a small smile reaching her lips, then bravely turning away from the stranger a moment to sniff the earth where she had been seeking out the fox den just moments ago. "I smell a fox den near, but I'm not able to find it!" She had entirely forgotten that she had been hungry and welcomed this return of thought as her stomache growled at her. "Mother called me Ruppa," she added belatedly.
Perhaps she should just give up on this hunting thing for the evening and try again tomorrow. It was still dusk, but it would soon be night. She wondered as she often did what it would be like to have a fellow wolf or two to snuggle up with... She supposed she was lonlier than she thought. Maybe she'd find a pack one day and not be cast out or chased off. That'd be new, loner's were a threat to packs it seemed, though she wasn't sure why. Why else would they run her off? No matter, she had a friend in the making, and that was well enough for her. She'd take what she could get and be happy with it. Bringing her mind back to the reason her hunting stopped, she glanced at her and gave her another short wave of her tail welcomingly.

Darkness was slowly beginning to fall across the lands, and although night had not yet taken over, it was clear that it was rapidly drawing in. Soon, any warmth provided by the sun would be gone, and the sky would be a sheet of black, with bright stars dancing in the air, the shimmering moon glowing proud and white against the ebony blanket. Akila looked forward to it. She had always found the stars interesting, as her mother had always told her that any deceased family would be up their with them, watching down on her at all times. For a wolf that lived life on her own, this idea was incredibly comforting.
'I smell a fox den near, but I'm not able to find it!'
The fae's words reminded Akila that she was no longer alone; she had company. What she said sparked her attention particularly, the idea of hunting down a fox den appealing to her nature. It was always fun when the prey attempted to fight back, after all, hunting Rabbits and the likes was boring. Akila liked a bit of game in her survival tactics. Her tail wagged with the prospect of a joint hunting expedition, something she had never before done- other than with her family, before they had all been killed in the fire- not even with Flint. Foxes were fairly large creatures, and weren't the easiest of things to catch either; especially when they went down their silly holes in the ground. All of this just added to the excitement of it all.
Usually, Foxes weren't her first choice as a meal, and the only reason she ever hunted them out was for the pure fun of the game. But the prey numbers were rapidly decreasing as Winter grew closer, and desperate times called for desperate measures. If she had to kill and eat a fox to survive, then that is exactly what she would do. That wasn't the situation at this very moment, though. The only reason she would offer to join her new found friend on her hunt was because she got a kick out of it, not because she was hungry.
'Mother called me Ruppa,'
Oh yes, she had completely forgotten about the exchanging of names! A grin placed itself on the white wolfs maw, her golden pools watching her companion excitedly. "I'm Akila. And i bet we could totally find those foxes if we tried hard enough!" She announced proudly, wagging her tail happily. God, she would never act so overenthusiastic in front of Flint, but for some reason, being in the company of this young female made her feel like an excitable pup again- so she did not care how she acted. She was happy to have company, and she wasn't about to hide that.
{ooc} Muse: Getting better i s'pose, Mood: She's excited, and a tad over-enthusiastic at the moment. {/ooc}

The evening was getting gradually darker, the air trapping the chill of the coming night. Ruppa's honey tones were turning mocha, her fur fluffing out just slightly to keep her warmth closer to her body. A trick of the shadows brought her attention to her guest. She could see the wintery wolf before her was slowly taking on a sort of glow, as if the moon shared it's light-bearing powers with her. It gave her an other-wordly appeal. Mixed with the dying reds from the last bit of sunset splashing her coat, she seemed like a seperate being, not a wolf at all. Perhaps not an angel, but something close to it. Ruppa couldn't help but stare for a few moments, just soaking in her new friends magical appearance.
She shook herself from her trance, averting her eyes and feeling a bit ashamed for staring so rudely. Belatedly, she realized the female had spoken and immediately tried to recall what was said. A name and something about foxes. Foxes, oh right! Her face lit up and she glanced about as if she'd see their glowing eyes just waiting to be chased about. She didn't see any signs of them, though, and she wasn't sure if she felt like tracking them down anymore. For some reason, she didn't really feel hungry, as if she had truly been hungry for company and now that she had that she lost her appetite. Now, she was aching for some play and adventure! She felt so much like a pup again this night, and wished it wouldnt have to end.
"Hey! Lets go somewhere fun! Do you like swimming?" It may be a bit cold at first, but she would bet a nice swim somewhere would burn off all her spare energy. It already sounded like a blast to have someone else around to chase after and run from! Her whole body was itching with anticipation, ready to just take off running in a split second and feel some adrenaline. Ruppa watched and waited for a reply, already daydreaming of the fun they would have. And if others found them and joined in? Even more fun! Or if they were interrupted and challenged, Ruppa felt they could take on the world together! She hadn't had a friend before, but she sure was liking it!
