The wind was cold but had hardly any force in it as it ruffled the young fae’s fur. The Mexican wolf walked across the snow slowly as she tried to take in the landscape around her. Everything was white and sparkled underneath the light. There was still black every now and then as she walked through the old burnouts. Just thinking about what could have done this hurt the fae and she wished it had never happened. Of course, she hadn’t been there when it had happened and she didn’t know anyone who had been hurt or killed but, that didn’t particularly matter to her; the point was that some people had been hurt or taken away from their loved ones. She knew the feeling.
When she was just one year old her family had been taken from her and she had cursed the evil that had done it. The bloodthirsty pack had come onto their island and killed everyone except her. Even now, when the dreams haunted her sleep, she wished she had died too. But then she remembered what she had here. She was the beta of the Xyla pack and though she did not know her alphess well she loved it there. This island was so much larger than her old home and it housed three packs. Although some where talking about another pack coming she didn’t think much of those rumours.
Jewel’s scared eye looked out but could see nothing. All she could ever see was half of everything. It was always half and never full and that annoy the hell out of her. She had many scars around her left eye and the golden orb was partly clouded over. A large bite mark still showed clearly behind her right ear and even part of the ear was slightly shredded from the teeth that had dragged her along the ground. However she fought on and kept up with her daily work, not complaining at all about not being able to see from her left eye or even being tired and thirsty. Instead she just kept her muzzle up and carried on with determination.
As the femme continued her walk through the burnouts she started to notice that nothing was growing back. It must have been like that for years but still nothing even tried to grow. The soil had been damaged so much that it was hard for any plant to live in it. The cold winter must also make it hard for the plants to survive, just as it made it hard for the wolves to catch prey. They had to be able to go suns without food and they had to be ready to prey on the weak and wounded animals around them. Game was scarce but luck was on their side and soon enough the would catch something, it just might not be able to keep them going for very long.

It had been quite a while since she had last been in these parts of her lands, but still it still looked almost exactly the same. No new growth, no green, all just a dull brown. Nothing new. 'Kishi padded through the dead, crunchy leaves that covered the floor. Atleast it wasn't thick with snow.
The fae wasn't having the most brilliant of days, she hadn't seen many other wolves around, and quite frankly, she was bored. Where was everyone? Not long ago, this Island had been crawling with other creatures, now it seemed as good as deserted! She sniffed the ground curiously, trying to pick up any recent scents. Nothing.
Ahh well, it wasn't the end of the world. She would be fine on her own for abit, and someone was bound to turn up eventually. Afterall, she couldn't be the only wolf around the Island. Their had to be more. Surely? Another thing popped to her as a low grumble came from her belly, she was so damn hungry! Along with the weird dissapearance of wolves, all of the other creatures seemed to have vanished too. But then again, it was Winter, so that wasn't anything new. Prey was usually scarce at this time of year, that still didn't explain about the lack of wolves around though.
Kishi went through her mind, trying to bring up the last time she had even smelt anything that could provide her as food. My oh my this could be a problem. She had a pack to feed. Well, atleast her pups had left, although if their was no food here, she dreaded to think how they were going to find any. Perhaps it was just the Xyla land that was scarce? Doubt it.
A sudden scent hit her sharp, being bought in by the short blow of wind. Their was a wolf around her somewhere. Close. It was a member of the pack, although she couldn't quite tell who yet. As she drew nearer, the scent got stronger and stronger, and it didn't take her too long to recognise who it belonged to. Jewel, her Beta.
'Kishi walked up behind the fae, debating whether to make her jump or not, but then coming to the conclusion that she'll have smelt her already anyway. "Helloo," she said, the grin clear in her voice, "long time no see." It was true, the fae hadn't seen her beta female for quite a while now. She was happy to just have some company. Then another thing popped into her mind . . . "Don't suppose you've seen any creatures that could provide us with food, eh?"
(Rushed >.< Sorry :/)

A scent flowed across the winter breeze and the fae turned to see her Alphess walking towards her. Lowering herself slightly she smiled at Kishi she slowed her walk so the femme could catch up. Nodding slightly she turned and continued her walk across the burnouts. “Hey, it has been too long. But no, there isn't much around here” she answered softly. It was true that it had been a while since she had seen her Alphess. She hadn’t really been in the pack for a very long time but she had managed to climb the ranks very successfully.
Ever since she had arrived at Kongrai things had been so much easier. She still remembered her family and old pack and everything that had happened nearly a year ago; it was pretty hard to get that kind of thing out of one’s mind. She tended to keep to herself a bit, not really opening up to anyone and just making sure she would stay alive for the next few days.
Jewel still hadn’t told the Alphess her story, how she had come to this island. But she wasn’t planning on doing so unless asked. It was a very touchy subject and even then she might end up telling a lie. She didn’t like lying to Kishi but she also didn’t like talking about everything she had been through and everything that had happened to her family not so long ago.
Keeping a steady gait she looked out into the distance and wondered what lay beyond the burnouts. This was the edge of Xyla territory on this side and she had never really ventured out past there. She had happened to have found herself on the beach right on Xyla territory and in the end she had just stayed there instead of bothering to go anywhere else. It was a lovely place that beach though, very calming and serene. One day soon she would go back there and just lie there, without any worries to annoy her.

'Hey, it has been too long. But no, there isn't much around here.' "Awr, crud, this isn't looking good. Seems like we're going to have to do some visits if something doesn't turn up." She stated glumly. Kishi never enjoyed going to visit the other lands. Too many bad memories. But atleast they had some sort of alliance with the Skyla, well, friendship. A tiny slither a friendship. That had to give them something. The Skyla Alphess had helped her before, who was to say things would be any different now? Plus, the Alpha also just happened to be her brother, although they didn't exactly get along fantastically.
The Alphess picked up her pace slightly, catching up with the Xyla Beta. It had been so long since she had seen Jewel, and she did look pretty different. Her coat was thicker, for instance, because of the cold temperatures which made her look bigger, more muscular than last time. "so, anyway, what have you been up to? I haven't seen you around for a while."
( Sorry its short, my muse has dieded! )
