Maple sat firmly at the base of a towering mountain, her gaze slowly traveling up the slope, and butt firmly set onto the ground. The rocky, steep mountainside was daunting, and facing her parents' fury was even more terrifying. They would already be mad at her for ditching her "short hunt," and even more for leaving the borders. She had hunted, just not in her territory. It wasn't anyone else's territory either, so they couldn't yell at her for that.
Her eyes finally stopped at the top, or at least, where it seemed was the top... She couldn't even see it, there were too many clouds and rocks! She took a deep breath. Okay, so she wouldn't go up to the top, but maybe, she could travel high enough for her to see the top of the trees, and maybe even the edge of the forest. If she got there, she could see if a wolf was running towards her, and it wouldn't take much time. It wasn't that big after all, and with the steepness, she wouldn't have to climb too high.

Five minutes later, Maple was found four feet off the ground, once again staring apprehensively at the task ahead. No chickening out! She took a deep breath, and took a step forwards. Her step was brave, was risky, and was in her head. Bah. She rose her body, and before she could think, jumped on top of the large boulder in front of her. She made it solidly on top, but she felt like her rump was about to fall into oblivion. She skittered forward, twisting around to make sure her hind legs were safe. She only noticed her forelegs when they slipped and fell as the unstable rocks they were stepping onto tumbled down. Her head whipped forward, but too late to stop her from falling, face first, onto them as they fell down a slope. Both rock and wolf slid down the base of the mountain, and landed on the dirt.
Six minutes later, Maple was found back where she started, with a slightly wider mountain.
"AARGH!"
Well, it could be worse. She'd heard wolves had been seriously injured here. One had gone in, never came back. She could not be deterred. She had set herself a goal, and she would not just forget and leave it. She had a time limit, but she didn't know how long it was, so she had no time for being afraid or ending up back on the bottom or getting hurt. Heh, I sound like dad when he's giving his "no crap" lecture.
She also had no time for laughing at her thoughts. She sprang up, onto the rocky beast. Within two minutes, she was where she had been before, but this time, she wasn't going to fall because she was ignoring where she was going. She walked carefully, and jumped onto the slope. Her claws dug into the hard dirt-pebble mix, and started climbing. The pebbles slipped, slid, and sprayed while she struggled up, making her feel even more insecure.
As she continued, the slope increased in steepness, and she decided to stop. She lunged to her right, aiming for a flat ledge, but fell short, and landed on the extremely thin part of the ledge. Balancing carefully, she managed to get to more stable "ground." She glanced down, and felt a surge of victory. She had at least doubled her record in height.

Curiosity had lead the king off his lands and into unclaimed territory, he was, by no means leaving his pack, just wondering what animals ventured here in these menacing mountains. The behemoth majesty walked slowly along the edge of a rocky slope, making sure each step he took was a carefully decided one, not wanting to take the wrong step and tumble to the bottom. The air here was bitterly cold and crisp, a refreshing break from the muggy air in land.
Soon the man found him self standing at the edge of a cliff, looking down on the land before him. He could see easily his own lands and the homes of many other wolves that resided here, but was astounded to see this small brown figure taking on the mountain. He watched as the little thing climbed the side of a rocky slope, kicking up pebbles and dirt behind her as she ascended up the mountain. From the looks of it, it had seemed that she had taken a nasty fall just moments before. Despite her minor cuts and bruses, she continued forward, jumping onto another ledge where the ground was more stable. He carefully walked forward, wanting to get a closer look.
[Yeah it sucks, but it's something. ]
