Amber eyes stared up into the moon, taking in the quiet and peace of the night. Life had calmed down since the pups had grown up enough so they were less excited and rambunctious about everything. Frost had come out into the night for an unknown reason. Perhaps to simply enjoy the night, which had happened often before life suddenly changed. She let out a deep breath, and rolled halfway onto her back. Life had calmed down as well. The humans seemed to have disappeared as well. That wasn't true, she still smelled them here and there, but they seemed to have hibernated during the winter, for some reason.
The sounds of the crickets surrounded her, but was quiet. An occasional sound of water came from the lake. Everything else was still. The air was cool, and she preferred it that way. It was better than warm air, which seemed to fill her nose with hot, dry air. At least, that is what her mind connected with warm air. Not warmth itself, which was a lovely feeling, connected with her family. They were different in her mind, like many similar things were for her, such as silence and peace. Peace is an illusion. Only an idea of no troubles, but that's impossible. Perhaps some times or places were more quiet than others, but tension or unluckiness always erupted.
What a shame, it always felt so amazingly perfect.

Her left ear, the one above her body, was suddenly alert, and turned slightly to where the thought she had heard a noise. She lifted her head off of the ground, and took in a light sniff at the air. The wind was against her, and she heard nothing startling, so she lay her head back down. Her eyes shifted from their original interest, to the lake. With the new wind, the smooth water became rougher. She watched the ripples travel away from her, farther and farther away. The ripples disappeared as they neared shore, protected from the wind by the strong trees. Her gaze still followed their original path, and rested upon the sandy beach.
A movement right above flicked them farther, but the night shielded whatever it was from her. This time, she continued watching, and noticed another movement. It looked like something small, perhaps a rabbit. Her guess proved true when two tall ears and a small body bounced into the air, away, and afraid. She did not need to wonder why, as another sound came from behind its old hiding spot. She raised her head again, but it wasn't necessary, as the obviously large, clumsy creature came closer, and was making noises.
Frost realized suddenly, they weren't noises she was familiar with. Her nose told her what this clumsy animal was, and filled her with horror. It was a human. Even more, the human she had smelled on Halgea some time ago. The one that had touched her, and most likely the one that had wounded her with its loud and deadly weapon. They were too close to her den, her family, and herself! Her raised head froze, afraid to call attention to herself with movement, and also afraid to stay there, upright.
It blundered in, most likely killing a few plant in the process, and fell on the beach. Its shining eyes were reflected in the lake. It was making loud, halting noises, and scaring just about everything around. It covered its eyes for a moment, and she took that lucky opportunity to lay her head back down. It occurred to her, this was a small human, extremely small. In fact, she might have been larger than it. Even louder crashing sounds, accompanied by vocal screeches suddenly came. Oh no, more were coming in. They were probably the more dangerous ones. Oh no.
While they were busy making a gigantic racket, Frost decided to warn her family before they suddenly became quiet, and her voice would be noticed.
"Oak! There are humans down the lake," she called as loudly as she felt was safe. She didn't know if her voice would be heard, but one way or another, they would know.
